Godwin is a former President of the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM). He holds a Post Graduate Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) and was elected a Fellow of that Institute. He was awarded Honorary Membership of SLIM in recognition of his contribution to marketing education having been for several years the senior lecturer on the SLIM panel preparing students for the examinations of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK ). He is acknowledged to be one of the most senior professional marketers whose speciality is marketing analysis and planning, marketing communication, sales management and training. His experience covers both FMCG marketing and Services marketing. He is one of the few qualified marketers who have had a practical experience in advertising having been the Managing Director of a leading Advertising Agency.
He is a regular contributor to the Lanka Monthly Digest. Currently he is writing a series of articles under the title ‘Taking Marketing to the Boardroom’. He is also the author of a popular series of articles titled ‘Marketing for Non-Marketers’ Amongst positions he held previously were that of Director Corporate Planning – Lanka Milk Foods Ltd; Head of Group Marketing – Aitken Spence Ltd. and Head of Marketing – Bank of Ceylon.
