Imal is the Director,
General Manager Sales & Marketing at Chevron Lubricants
Lanka Limited, where he has geographic responsibility
for Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
He started his career at J Walter Thompson in advertising
and subsequently worked in Brand Management and Sales
Management with multinationals such as Unilever, Glaxo-SmithKline
and Coca-Cola. He pioneered the entry of GSK consumer’s
brands into Vietnam. He recruited the team, trained
the pioneer employees and established a profitable business.
At Coca-Cola he was responsible for developing regional
communication for South Asia for brands
Coca-Cola and Fanta. The interactive media Fanzone he
created for Sri Lanka Cricket won a gold medal at the
local advertising awards and was acknowledged globally.
He has extensive experience in overseas markets having
managed brands and sales teams in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait,
Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, UAE, Vietnam, Thailand and India.
Prior to joining Chevron, he served as a USAID sponsored
consultant to the Sri Lanka Tea Board and a non executive
director at Eureka Technological Partners.
Imal plays an active role in uplifting industry standards
within the marketing community. He was the Chairman
of the first Sri Lankan creative awards as well as a
judge in the “Brand Excellence” program
conducted by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing. He
was also a council member of the Charted Institute of
Marketing – Sri Lanka Regional Office. In his
role as a director of the International Advertising
Association, Sri Lanka Chapter, he drives the initiative
to establish the “value of advertising”.
Imal is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing
UK and holds an MBA from Belford.
